Laptop Compaq Presario 2100 2124EU
My Compaq has a french keyboard, so the exact name is Compaq Presario 2124EU.
Sound (Loudspeaker + jack): OK (with ALSA, not tested with OSS)
Microphone : OK
Ethernet : OK(natsemi)
USB : OK (ohci, USB 1.1)
PCMCIA : OK
VGA output : OK (ATI Radeon IGP 320M)
S-Video output : not working, even with Windows XP
TouchPad : OK
Suspend2 : OK (whith linux 2.6.18 + patch from http://www.suspend2.net)
Side keys / buttons
I use xev to scan multimedia buttons keycodes
- Volume UP
- Volume DOWN
- Silence (Using fn + Backspace)
- Button Mail
- Button Internet
Non working buttons are :
- Silence (Button on the side)
- Magnify
- Lock
- button "?"
Even with evbug module loaded in kernel, those buttons remains inactive !
Then I assign them in .xmodmaprc :
!See /usr/share/X11/XKeysymDB for different posibilities
keycode 176 = XF86AudioRaiseVolume
keycode 174 = XF86AudioLowerVolume
keycode 160 = XF86AudioMute
keycode 236 = XF86Mail
!keycode 178 = XF86????
To apply , just run : xmodmap .xmodmaprc
Update (11/12/2008), it seems, we can choose Presario keyboard. Look at file : /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/inet
Power Management
BIOS APM : NO
BIOS ACPI : YES (supports S0 S3 S4 S5)
Hard disk
Install of Windows XP take 18GB / 60GB, because on the Compaq install a file is not movable at the position of 18GB, so I let 18GB for Windows XP, the rest is for Linux. I used Qparted from Knoppix to resize the Windows partition.
Display
Display 2D : OK
Display 3D : not tested
Display DRI : not installed yet
Result for glxgears : 271 fps (kernel 2.6.5)
Result for glxgears : 300 fps (kernel 2.6.6)
Result for glxgears : 275 fps (kernel 2.6.8.1)
Result for glxgears : 75 fps (kernel 2.6.6), if using battery
Result for glxgears : 243 fps (kernel 2.6.13.3-preempt), with X.org
Result for glxgears : 223 fps (kernel 2.6.13.3-preempt), with X.org, if using battery
Result for glxgears : 249 fps (kernel 2.6.21-2-k7), with X.org, if using battery.ppracer running at 30/32 FPS !
Result for glxgears : 249 fps (kernel 2.6.28-11), with X.org on Ubuntu 9.04.
Remark : glxgears is in Debian package "mesa-utils"
Fedora Core 1b
Everything work fine.
You can add ACPI=on in /boot/grub/menu.lst on the kernel line, so you will have the battery charge indication
Without ACPI, the FAN is always active and noisy and don't know how many time remaining on battery.
Knoppix 3.3
Same as Fedora except that ACPI is not available, so the fan is noisy.
Knoppix 3.4 not tested
Debian Unstable
Everything is fine in 2D, but nothing in 3D.
Ubuntu 9.04
Everything is fine.
Linux kernel modules
I use linux 2.6.5-1 from Debian/testing, and a PCMCIA wireless card is in the slot.
